Gomez succeeds Antonio Camejo, who remains as the group’s vice president.

The non-profit organization came under some criticism in November when some of its leaders took a public stance against a $100 million resiliency bond referendum. The measure passed easily. The council has been active in other large public debates, such as a complicated utility undergrounding assessment plan that was later shelved. More recently, the group pushed for a reevaluation of stormwater fees. A consultant’s proposal to redesign the assessment methodology is set for review by the Village Council on Tuesday.

But Gomez said he plans on taking the organization into a different direction.

“We want more focus on quality of life issues for condo residents,” Gomez said.  “And somewhat less with regards to public policy and political involvement.”

Leaders of the council are not elected by condo residents, but are chosen from the leadership of some of the island’s condominium associations, who are elected by owners
