A girl water skiing off Nixon Beach was fatally struck by another boat Saturday afternoon and authorities are asking the public for help as they investigate.

The victim was identified as Ella Adler, 15, a member of the class of 2027 at Ransom Everglades school.

“We are heartbroken,” the school said in a statement posted to Instagram. “Ella Adler ’27 shined in our classrooms and on our stages, and she embodied the mission of Ransom Everglades School.”

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission says the collision took place near the Nixon Beach sandbar around 4:30 p.m. In a statement,. spokeswoman Arielle Callender said Adler fell in the water while being towed and was struck by another vessel. In a statement, she said officers were making “significant progress” in the investigation but repeated a a call for the public’s help.

She described the striking vessel as a center center console boat with a light blue hull. It has multiple white outboard engines and may have blue or dark blue bottom paint. It was last seen heading westbound from Nixon Beach in Key Biscayne.
