Former Key Biscayne Mayor Mike Davey quickly has made up any fundraising deficit with his Democratic opponent in the race for the U.S. House seat in District 27 but trails incumbent Maria Elvira Salazar by a large margin. DeSantis tweaks Florida book challenge law, falsely blames liberal activists
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has acknowledged that a law he enacted two years ago making it easier for people to challenge books in schools and libraries has caused problems for school districts. He signed a bill Tuesday adjusting the measure. Coincidentally, PEN America released a report Tuesday saying that Florida was responsible for 72% of books pulled during the first half of this school year. While DeSantis blamed the need to change the law on liberal activists making frivolous challenges, Pen America said the vast majority of banned books were the result of conservatives targeting books based on topics such as race, sexual orientation and gender identity.

Civil rights lawyer Ben Crump assails police shooting of Liberty City man with mental health issues
The police-involved shooting last month of a Black Miami man — whose mother said she called 911 because her son was having a mental health crisis — represents yet another disturbing example of how police officers fail to handle such emergency calls for help and routinely impose criminal charges to justify using lethal force, said Ben Crump, an attorney representing the victim and who has worked on some of the nation’s most racially charged cases.
Changing course, Florida prosecutor suspended by DeSantis to seek reelection
Changing course, a Democratic Florida prosecutor suspended from office by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis said Tuesday he will seek reelection while a court battle continues over his 2022 removal from the post. Andrew Warren had said in January he would not run this year. But that was before a federal appeals court ruled that a lower court should consider […]
