DeSantis tweaks Florida book challenge law, falsely blames liberal activists

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has acknowledged that a law he enacted two years ago making it easier for people to challenge books in schools and libraries has caused problems for school districts. He signed a bill Tuesday adjusting the measure. Coincidentally, PEN America released a report Tuesday saying that Florida was responsible for 72% of books pulled during the first half of this school year. While DeSantis blamed the need to change the law on liberal activists making frivolous challenges, Pen America said the vast majority of banned books were the result of conservatives targeting books based on topics such as race, sexual orientation and gender identity.
