Empowering young girls is a passion for Angela Horton, who is leading a Key Biscayne master class to help them overcome challenges and realize their dreams. Here’s more about her and the the event Saturday, April 13th 11 a.m. -2 p.m, at Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne.

1.Could you introduce yourself and provide some background on your work and interests?

I’m Angela Horton, a designer and stylist with over 25 years of experience. My journey began in the hospitality industry at Rosewood Hotels, but my passion for fashion led me to work for icons such as Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, and Frette. In 2005, I ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing my own business. Last year, I relaunched my clothing line during Miami Swim Week.

2. What motivated you to develop this master class to build self-confidence for young girls?

The creation of ‘Inside and Out’ event stemmed from my 16-year-old niece’s aspirations to pursue modeling. Witnessing her ambition inspired me to organize an entire event dedicated to bolstering self-confidence. I remembered my own teenage years and recognized the maturity within my niece that I lacked at her age. She became the catalyst for extending this support to other young girls.

3. Tell us about the guest speakers in the program. What insights and experiences on self-confidence and self-love will they share?

We have an enlightening panel discussion featuring remarkable women. Among them are Anna Raimondi, a spiritual coach renowned for her appearances on shows like Dr. Oz, as well as Beatriz Robasso, a teen dietitian, and Nicole Shelley, the founder of Nicole Shelley Models. Additionally, we have a surprise guest, a talented opera singer, Veronica Lovan who will be joining the panel to provide unique insights.

4. What  activities will take place to nurture self-love and confidence?

Following the panel discussion that will be indulged in self-love and confidence, attendees can look forward to engaging in various activities such as a fashion show, a photo shoot session, and enjoying light bites and delicious treats. Each attendee will also receive a fun-filled goodie bag as a token of appreciation.

5. What approaches have you found most effective in helping young girls overcome self-doubt and embrace self-love?

Reflecting on my personal journey, self-love has always been a fundamental aspect, instilled in me at a young age by my mother. Her belief in self-love and confidence has greatly influenced the successful person I am today.

One effective approach I’ve found is introducing young girls to positive role models who exemplify self-confidence, resilience, and self-love. I believe many women share similar struggles, seeking avenues to enhance and cultivate self-love. This master class serves as an excellent opportunity to unite the community and embrace individuality in young girls and empower them to embrace self-love

6. How do you handle societal pressures and stereotypes that may impact young girls’ self-esteem?

Today, there are significant concerns stemming from social media’s influence. I support the new Florida law that limits teen use of social media. At our master class, we believe in empowerment through education, which aims to maintain balance and level-headedness.

By providing education on assertiveness, boundaries, and consent, we help young girls with knowledge and skills in these areas, we empower them to advocate for themselves and navigate through relationships with confidence and self-respect. This approach fosters a supportive environment where young girls can thrive and resist negative societal influences.

7. Can you recommend any resources or strategies for participants to continue their personal growth and empowerment beyond the master class?

We intend to host this impactful event more frequently throughout the year. Our panelists have generously extended an open-door policy for registered attendees, welcoming them to reach out whenever needed. We emphasize the importance of emotional support and strive to create a safe space for young girls to express their feelings and concerns. We actively listen, validate their experiences, and offer guidance and reassurance as needed. This ongoing support ensures that participants can continue their personal growth and empowerment journey beyond the master class.

8. How do you anticipate the impact of this master class extending beyond the immediate workshop setting?

We’re eager to expand this master class to other communities. Our main objective was to launch the master class in Miami, as this city is often perceived as superficial and self-centered, where judgments are quickly made based on appearances. We hope to inspire positive change not only within individuals but also within the community.

9. Can you tell us about any charitable initiatives or causes that will benefit from a portion of the proceeds generated by the master class?

I strongly believe in giving back to the community. For this master class, we have chosen to support Touching Lives in Miami Foster Care. A portion of the proceeds will go toward providing opportunities for girls from foster care to attend this wonderful event. It’s our way of making a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.

10. Could you share with us an empowering quote or motto?

“’Birds of a feather flock together. Surround yourself with those who lift you up. If you surround yourself with brilliant and bright people, you will go off the charts.”
